HOW TO HAVE A GREAT SUMMER

(and a great life)

June 20, 2021 – the first day of summer!!! Yay!

Here are the keys to having a great summer:

  1. Attitude – a positive attitude has been proven by extensive research to boost feel good hormones. How do you do it?

Gratitude – ask yourself, “what am I grateful for?” After the initial “nothing” most of us answer by reflex (especially with a global pandemic), take a moment and realize that you do have much to be grateful for. It could be your family, your health, a beautiful day, a good meal, a pet.

Optimism – You have a choice. Is the glass half empty or half full? SAME AMOUNT OF WATER!

Laughter – it is indeed the “best medicine.” Two of my personal heroes are Hawkeye from MASH and Gomez Adams from the Adams Family. You young ones may need to Youtube them! They both enjoyed laughter and maybe, more importantly, did not take themselves or Life too seriously.

Perspective – the key to managing stress. An annoying comment or behavior from another person can really set you off. Ask yourself, how important is that comment or behavior, how important is that person to you, will it even matter a month, a year from now, and are they worth you being miserable or even getting sick over?

Which brings me to the next important matter:

  •  Dealing with difficult people.

Research shows we are experiencing a narcissism epidemic. (can anyone say selfie, Twitter, or Instagram?)

Narcissists lack empathy for others so conversations with them are more monologues than dialogues.

How do you deal?

  • First way is don’t, if you don’t have to.
  • If you don’t have a choice, like they’re your boss, then just suck it up and make nice. Challenging them will only make things worse since they ACTUALLY ENJOY THE CONFRONTATION.
  • You gotta stay healthy! The most important question?

                                                       WHY?

Because it’s good for me? Nah, too boring!

Because it will allow me to do the things I want to do….activities, sports, socializing, sleeping more comfortably, and my favorite, aging gracefully? Now we’re takling!

  • Move your body! “If you don’t use it, you lose it.”
  • Stretching and exercises – oh no, not that again! I can show you stretches and exercises appropriate for you that you can do anywhere and will literally take minutes.
  • Ice – not only will it feel good on a hot day but will minimize inflammation. A daily 15 ice session, EVEN WHEN THERE’S NO PAIN, will go a long way to keeping you comfortable.
  • Chiropractic adjustments – (you knew I was getting here at some point!). Patients are getting their “pre-summer tune-ups” before vacation so they don’t have to worry about their neck or back bothering them while they’re enjoying some well-earned rest.

Pinched nerves can ruin a beautiful summer day so let me take care of them, hopefully BEFORE THE PAIN STARTS.

And, if you are pressed for time, an adjustment can take literally minutes if I skip the therapy. When I get adjusted by a friend, we are both adjusted literally within minutes.

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!
