From a normal 10 pounds of stress on your neck to an abnormal 60 pounds of stress on your neck is why we sometimes say to ourselves, “my head feels like it weighs a ton!”
WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT
- Be aware of your posture – remember “hold your head up straight!” that our parents used to say? I like putting my hands behind my back, holding one wrist, and pulling straight down. Your shoulders get pulled back and your head raises.
- There are isometric exercises that I can teach you that will strengthen your neck muscles easily and safely…and done quickly.
- Regular Chiropractic adjustments (what I call “tune up and an oil change) to fix all the pinched nerves caused by text neck before they start.
- Give up your phone, tablet, computer… ( yeah, right….not happening!). Just being silly!
- Just be aware and remind yourself that there are serious consequences to text neck and not to take it lightly. Maybe not as bad as ignoring the consequences of no exercise and a lousy diet (can anyone say heart attack?) but it will affect the quality of your life.
