I’m sure that we all agree that exercise is vitally important for our health. So many scientific studies have proven that regular exercise benefits our entire body from our hearts to our muscles to our minds.

 

So why don’t we all exercise on a regular basis?

 

Reasons vary from not enough time to laziness to lack of knowledge to fear of injury.

 

I have some answers!

 

Regarding time, I recommend an app that I use called the Johnson and Johnson 7 Minute Workout. It is quick, effective, and safe, using only your body weight with comments during the exercises to make sure they are done correctly. There are also many variations including different lengths of workout and different exercises.

At the very least, you can take a suggestion from a wonderful 84 year old patient who is still physically and mentally vital. She tells me that she parks as far away from a store as possible so she has to walk from car to store and back. On a side note, when I asked her how she keeps her brain as sharp as it is, her answer was “Jeopardy!”

 

Motivation is the biggest obstacle. We are back to the “why” questions I originally raised in my introduction. Our “why” is toward a benefit or away from a loss, or both. Find which one is more powerful and use it as leverage with yourself. So, when you say to yourself, “I don’t feel like exercising,” you can follow up with, “if I don’t, this will happen, or, if I do, then I can do this.” I can help you with finding the most powerful reasons.
