As we all acknowledge history and the events on that tragic day, I would like to share, as well as exchange with you, some experiences, thoughts, memories, perspectives.
This will be of a personal nature and not political.
Like everyone else, we all felt like we needed to do something to help, whether it be comforting, or, in my case, volunteering my services.
The New York Chiropractic Council organized a relief effort at 5 different sites, one being at St. John’s Church, about a block away from the Towers, where I was placed.
We had many tables set up and spent many days adjusting firemen, policemen, rescue workers, who worked tirelessly day and night.
These true heroes were grateful for our care and so many broke down crying on my table at the devastation they had to see and endure. We chiropractors were grateful for the opportunity and privilege of helping these incredible human beings.
A few years later, I needed an adjusting table for a smaller room. I called my supply office and they said to me that they had a table that was the ideal size, but it was used since they had donated it to the relief effort.
I asked them, “does it happen to be navy blue?” When they surprisingly said yes, I said to them, “I adjusted on that table after 9/11.”
That navy blue table is in my office, and I can’t help but think how many rescue workers, firemen, and policemen, were adjusted on that table. I would like to also think that there is a great deal of “good karma” in that table!
Thank you for allowing me to share something deeply personal.
