Happy New Year 2018!

New Year’s 2018

Happy New Year!

Maybe because I’m getting older (notice I said “older” not “old!”) but Life seems to pass by more quickly each year. Each year we become so busy with the mechanics of life that we forget how to live. Each year we sit down and try to make goals, plans, “resolutions,” that not only improves our health but our lives as well.

We know deep down that if we do not take care of ourselves, we will not be able to take care of our obligations, much less actually enjoy our lives.

How to Make and Keep Resolutions

The first day of the year can also inspire feelings of immense pressure. That “new year, new me” mentality can create a sinking sense that if you don’t get started on those resolutions right now, or swear off X, or do more of Y, you’ve already set yourself up for failure.
Sure, self-improvement is great. Last week I even wrote about setting and keeping our resolutions. But relaxing and going about things at your own pace is pretty great, too. We have all of 2018 to work on those resolutionsand goals  so today, let’s just relax and get ready for the coming year.

In the New York Times article, The Only Way to Keep Your Resolutions, it has been found that instead of using will power, which is short lived, try using gratitude and compassion. For the article click here.

How do get physically AND mentally healthy in a safe, effective, time efficient manner?

1. Chiropractic is still the most efficient healing art and only one that treats the cause (pinched nerves/interference to the nervous system which runs the body) and not just the symptom (pain).

Please also remember that a chiropractic adjustment can literally take minutes if need be. I have also seen patients outside of regular office hours by appointment.

But it needs to be supported by the following:

  1. Exercise recommendations – as a Chiropractic Sports Physician and Certified Personal Trainer, I can prescribe the most effective, safe, and appropriate exercises and stretches for your body as well as your schedule. One of my favorites is the Johnson and Johnson Official 7 Minute Workout.  For the workout, click here.

  1. Lifestyle modifications including posture and body mechanics

  1. Meditation – yeah, I know, it’s one of those, “I should do it but one, don’t feel like it, and two, don’t know how.” For a terrific article that explains it simply click here.  In it you will find 4 guided meditations of 1, 4, 10, and 15 minute meditations. By the way, I’m still only doing 1 minute!

  1. Lifelong learning – I am committed to my practice and teaching to lifelong learning about the human body. I am also committed to my music performance, being exposed to good books, and having new experiences. I encourage you to continue to learn as well about anything that interests you and, perhaps even better, anything NEW that causes your mind to achieve that end. Studies now show that complacency leads to stagnation and can lead to a deterioration of the mind.

I fully appreciate that there are time and financial constraints that can interfere with your goals and ultimately your long-term health. Please let me help you figure out how to make it work.

I am filled with excitement, hope, and optimism for the coming year and will be happy to share what I’ve learned to accomplish that.

I always finish my New Year’s emails with the following:

It is my fervent wish that we are periodically inspired to hope instead of despair, to lofty dreams instead of complacency, to love instead of fear, to compassion instead of anger, to health instead of sickness, to laughter instead of tears, to self-fulfillment physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, for it is only after we take care of ourselves that we can truly take care of and give to others, our greatest gift.

Please know that it is a privilege to be your chiropractor and that I appreciate the responsibility and the friendship you have given me.

Yours in the pursuit of health, longevity and quality of life,

Claude
