You KNOW You Need to Exercise and Eat Well, But WHY Don’t You?
“IT’S SO HARD!”
In a new study from the Atlantic:
13 percent of all people were nonsmoking, active, healthy eaters.
The average American man has a body mass index just barely under the medical definition of OBESE. In a 2013 ranking of affluent countries’ health, the United States CAME IN LAST.
I’ll bet that convinced you…NOT!
SO WHAT WILL?
THE POWER OF “WHY”
Why should I exercise and eat well?
To be healthy? Nah, boring!
Here’s the power of “why:”
You get up every morning to go to a job that you really don’t like.
Why? You gotta pay the bills and put food on the table. Otherwise you starve and they take your house away. So you do it.
You’re a student who takes on massive debt and spends time in class and time studying and works two jobs to pay your bills.
Why? There’s the promise of a better future. So you do it.
We are motivated both toward a benefit and away from a loss.
You need to find your WHY for exercising and eating well.
And it needs to be powerful!
Like I said, “because it’s good for me” is boring and won’t happen.
Here are a few examples:
A patient became diabetic and now eats better. Why? Because he is now scared that if he doesn’t, he may go blind and have his toes amputated.
Another patient starting running after a heart attack. Why? Because his doctor said that if he doesn’t exercise, he will die!
Another patient likes to travel. Exercise for her means that she will be able to travel for years to come.
I have a few so I can remind myself of all my “whys” instead of stopping after class late at night for Taco Bell, pizza, or Chinese food!
I will share only one with you now, as an example.
Why do I exercise and eat well MOST days? Because in April I will have a granddaughter and I want to be able to play with her and see her grow up. Powerful, don’t you think? And I have a few more as backup.
LET ME HELP!
I will be very happy to sit with you and figure out your “why”
I can also help you with exercise suggestions to fit any condition, any time constraint.
I can also help you come up with a food plan to fit any condition, any time constraint.
I can also make sure that your spine is aligned and flexible so you have less pain, so your nervous system and thus the rest of your body works better, so your immune system is strong, so you can exercise and eat well and answer those “whys.”
It’s not your weight, it’s your body fat percent
I also invite you to come in and get your body fat percent checked. Let’s establish a baseline so we can measure your progress.
By the way, it’s also a way to be accountable to someone, like checking your weight at a Weight Watcher’s meeting. That has been proven to be a very powerful motivator.
