Collaboration:
Doctor and patient working together
There is, unfortunately, a lack of collaboration between doctor and patient which has led to the following exchange:
Doctor – Please don’t confuse your Google search with my medical degree and 20 years of experience.
Patient – Please don’t confuse the 1-hour lecture you had on my condition with my 20 years of living with it.
There is a difference between a patient saying, “I read on Facebook/Instagram/heard from my mother-in-law that I have____, so I want you to treat me this way______”
With the patient saying, “I have these symptoms and from what I can tell from these respected websites, it sounds like it could be _____”
I welcome the exchange of information! A professor from Chiropractic school once said to us, “you can learn everything you need just by listening to the patient.”
Here is a list of respected medical websites:
CDC.gov
Who.int
mayoclinic.org
webmd.com
Explain your thinking, identify your source, and let’s try to solve the diagnostic puzzle TOGETHER.
